Hammock Stands
As children almost all of us loved swinging at the playground. The sense of free yet structured movement and the feel of the air swirling around us gave us a thrill. The swaying motion was also very relaxing and soothing. When we are older a hammock imitates many of the things we loved about swings when we were younger.
Being suspended in the air is simply magical. Of course it’s not quite like flying in your dreams, but there is definitely something about having nothing beneath you and your feet not touching the ground. If you own a hammock you can enjoy this on a daily basis, though you may not think of it in exactly this way.
Of course the traditional way we think of hammocks being suspended is between two trees. This method is still used in yards that have trees in the right proximity to each other and is also ideal in camping situations. However, hammocks that are used simply for relaxation cannot always be suspended from trees. This is why we have hammock stands.
Hammock stands are designed to allow you to hang and lie in your hammock without the need for a permanent place of suspension. You can move the hammock stand to any place you might want to set up your hammock rather than relying on trees, rocks or any other object to do the job.
There are many different types of hammock stands. The first thought you might have about a hammock stand is a fear that the hammock might overturn or the stand might break. Of course this is possible, but with modern construction it is very unlikely, unless you are playing roughly on the hammock.
Steel frames are kind of the standard in hammock stands. They come in various designs, but usually have a square shape that rests on the ground with the hammock being attached to the top of the frame, which is otherwise open on the top.
Arc hammock frames are a more visually appealing type of frame. Like other kinds they can be made of wood like cypress or metal. The metal can be painted a variety of colors to your taste and to blend in with your outdoor décor.
A good hammock stand will provide your hammock with the support necessary without any bending or shifting. As a matter of fact, once you are on the hammock you shouldn’t really be able to tell it’s even there, lending to the feeling that you are floating.
Although you may feel you are too old to head to the playground and swing you can surely enjoy a similar experience in a hammock. The difference is that while when you were swinging in the playground you may have been grateful to take a break from your reading, when you are swinging in your hammock you will find there is no better place to read.
